Urizen 1Bit Tileset - 5500+ free 12x12 tiles
A downloadable asset pack
Urizen 1Bit Tileset
5500+ tiles of pure 12x12 happiness. Each tile has exactly 1 non-black color. These colors are chosen to be the most informative themselves.
From before COVID era. Without any AI slop. Without image generation. Only with patience.
Every possible theme (maybe)
Urizen has many thematic tiles:
- Universal tileset that can be used everywhere
- Overworld
- Fantasy
- Medieval
- Modern
- Western
- Sci-fi
- Horror
Buildings, characters, monsters, items, interior etc - from various ages, from various worlds.
Endless races for endless diversity
This tileset has more than 40 races (humans - males/females, various fantasy and sci-fi races) with MORE THAN 100 professions! Lizardman Trader? Yes. Dwarf Fisher? Sure. Maybe Lamia Pyromancer or Robot Mechanic? Easy!
Modular Madness
Want some cheat codes? Colorful objects in 1bit tileset? Not a problem! There are several modular megatiles that can have various animated content inside: Megamachines, Supercomputers and Really Big Portals.
A path to infinite variability
More, more and more. One type of banknote? What about ten types of banknotes? A swordsman having sword and shield? Wanna swordsmans with scimitars, tower shields, big swords?
It is an endless path of variability. It will never ends - but the tileset will be better and better.

this is so sick
Looks great!
Love this pack so much! I used it in my recent mini project for the Inbound Shovel Game Jam! Thank you for all your heard work!
Plunge Into The Dungeon
Awesome!... But how do I use tilesets like this? I'm just starting to learn game programming, and only know how to use individual .png files
Most frameworks have some form of class that lets you handle spritesheets with methods for displaying the needed frames and thus animations.
For example in python & pygame: https://www.pygame.org/wiki/Spritesheet
In Godot you use a Sprite2D Node and a AnimationPlayer node to use sprite sheets directly.
In Rust and Bevy you load in your sprite sheet and then layout it: https://bevy.org/examples/2d-rendering/sprite-sheet/
thank you for all the hard work :)
I LOVE YOU !!!
good! :)
This tileset is so awesome. And it keeps getting better! You're the best thank you
I love this tileset. I don't know where to use it but I loved it <3
Astonishingly looking tileset! I’ve used it in my roguelike :)
you should really specify to do "You need 12x12 tileset with offset_x=1 pixel, offset_y=1 pixel and 1 pixel between tiles."
as another user has said I struggled for a bit till I found that comment.
I used this tileset again - so diverse! If I could pay you again I would.
My game: https://xbattlestation.itch.io/eat-the-sun
I used your tileset, a bit.

Thank you!
Following for the sci-fi expansion, commenting to help motivate you if I may.
Hi vurmux, this is amazing style. 10/10
Hey Dev can you give me which animations are there for Player? which animation frames?
I'm interested too
This is amazing!!! I mighta spent 20 dollars on this, thanks so much for making it free! Very thorough work, and great job making all the objects so identifiable. Five stars!
great work!
this is sick
Great asset pack, used it for my first raylib project
It’s a really cool set! I currently use it for my little WIP roguelike project.
I added a few armour and weapon tiles that I could send over if you’re interested. Maybe you have some use for them.
Thanks for the tileset - great work. I used it in my game Phasmophilia
This is my comment to the single greatest free tileset ever.
i'm looking forward to your sci-fi tiles. Keep on trucking!
the 12x12 on Tiled doesn't work for me, and the 13x13 is slightly big, what can I do?
You need 12x12 tileset with offset_x=1 pixel, offset_y=1 pixel and 1 pixel between tiles.
Like this? --->
Yes
that makes sense...
thank you. i am using them in my prototype, but i may even use for the final version!
this is great!
Thanks for making this awesome tileset! I use it for my roguelike Lost Cavern (https://s01den.itch.io/lost-cavern)
this tileset is Gorgeous!
saw these were being used in the huge game tontine.cash pretty cool
Wow. Perfect tileset!
This tileset is under CC0 license. You can use it for free and commercial projects and don't need to pay anything. But I will be appreciated if you will write about this tileset in credits and/or donate something :)
love everything about this set! I’m very curious about the lovecraftian idea however, any news about that possibly happening?
This tileset is just AMAZING! Using it for my mini roguelike project and loving it :)
This whole thing is amazing!
We used it for an university project and it looked stunning!
awesome. but im confused about these tiles.
could you make a list of their names?
These tileset uses both PNG and TMX/TSX format. In TSX format there are many additional info for each tile. You can download Tiled program and open TSX file with it. There are block of parameters for each tile that fully describes their name. Later I will release Urizen GUI, where you can get all info with just one click.
How do I get this TSX file?
There is a github repo which has several .tsx files which have this extra metadata still available here:
https://github.com/vurmux/urizen
I found this github link in one of the above devlog updates:
https://vurmux.itch.io/urizen-onebit-tileset/devlog/173030/urizen-1bit-tilesets-...
Yes, this is old tsx files for outdated tileset version. You can use them for free, if you want.
The currently available download only includes a PNG file, and these older TSX files are the only ones I could find available. I draw things with these tiles nearly every day for several years now. They are great and I love them and was just trying to be helpful, that's all! :) <3
I used them as the starting basis for my jam game here (https://tesseractgamingindustries.itch.io/paranormal-alien-containment-personnel); I added some things and drew some new stuff but the core is Urizen tileset with it's cool 12x12 pixels and fun lil' guys!
Hi. Is there any possibility you could resize those assets for being used on RPG Maker VX Ace? I can't figure how to do it by my hand (I'm so bad with photo editors)
As I understand, RPG Maker VX Ace use 32x32 tiles. My tiles are 12x12 and can be scaled to 24x24 or 36x36, so they are incompatible with RPG Maker (without additional editing).
Thanks, i think i figured how to use them on VX Ace with some extra editing. Are you still working on the other tilesets? I would love to see more of this :)
Yes. You can find info in my last devlog :)
I'm making a coloring book and activity set. I'll be making the altered tileset CC0 once I'm done with it. All the comics and coloring pages I make will be free too. Keeps my hands busy. I hope you enjoy them.
Looks cool! I will be glad to see your comics or coloring pictures!
https://muaddweeb.itch.io/1-bit-wonderworks Thank you for making your tileset freely available. My preview coloring book is posted, totally free along with the remixed tilesets. Be well, Traveller.
These sprites were exactly what I needed for the project I made today! I'm making an immersive retro clone game of Frogger!
